Dayz Surpasses 1 Million Players! Evolving From Mod To Standalone Game!

With the great success, the mod DayZ has surpassed over 1 million players in the last 6 months! This is a feat that major PC game releases struggle to do. What separates DayZ from the pack is that it is just a mod, and It’s still in alpha stage, pretty crazy eh?

Very simaler to Minecrafts start in 2010, Dayz popularity is pushing the game to greater distances before it’s seen it’s final stage. Granted the beta stage of Minecraft did push the game into the spotlight of the industry, it brought the game into other platforms including Xbox live, that would in the past would be unheard of. DayZ is planning on doing a standalone release.

“That’s right, this is actually happeningDayZ will be developed as a standalone game, with me as project lead, by Bohemia Interactive,” reads the announcement on the official DayZ website, “This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago.”

With the success of 1 million players already adventuring the zombie filled landscapes of Hall’s ArmA II mod, there is no certainty that the full version will in fact stop the existing, ever evolving community. Hall assures that development of the game will not interrupt the mod.

“Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.”

The great stride in DayZ’s success shows how the state of PC gaming and the development of games are headed. The game with it’s “do what thou wilt” antics, put a new spin onto the MMO gaming we all know of today. Games like World of Warcraft, and Star Wars: The Old Republic, that have copied ideas from past games and have had great success with die hard followers from the start have had trouble keeping gamers interested in playing. The way that DayZ separates itself from the “quest giving” titles is creating waves in the MMO game play enviroment. Players are able to create more of the game themselves, freedom from tedious “do this, do that” chores.

We are very excited for the stand alone release, and look forward to giving you guys more updates on It’s progress and development!
